It has been way too long.

These are the fallow months friends. We managed a mini goat and I was once again stunned by the talent around me. We were treated to an evening of acoustic karaoke with Paul Burback and Anne Mathews heading up the stage: Unstumpable. After making it through some America and Phil Collins, we were treated to some Sabbath to boot. I am always amazed at how some of that drek is transformed by the chance to sing it yourself. The lyrics seem so wonderfully bizarre.... she's an eassssssy lovvver.? Really? I am pretty sure that Anne and Paul could make a ton of money just heading up an acoustic karaoke bar of their own.

Despite the winter turnout with some noticeable absences I felt Super lucky to share my community with Awesome Cousin Ed ( who will henceforth be referred to as ACE) and Keith O of Phillytown. Folks loved their company and we certainly hope they make it back again soon. Place to some small extent is culture. I was certainly shaped by the very air of Philly and I certainly have felt a shift since moving here 20 + years ago. The goat loves a little influx at each gathering to broaden its experience and stretch the notion of what is possible. I simply love the fact that every time feels different. Communities are living things and I love this one.Above is my attempt to catch a hummingbird eking out a living on the only flower blooming, god how we were rooting for her. x, t

The Goat may be sparse in coming weeks.

In the mean time consider this.

Sometimes I am struck by the fact that the largest threat to my own personal sense of safety is the predatory nature of my own mind. I really don't need things like this to confront me at my local gym.  I was trying to determine why it seemed so odd when I realized that this man is striking an exact pose of someone urinating and simultaneously confronting his neighbor. Let's keep everyone safe but rest assured that if you come to the goat we will not insist on you sitting on anything.

Mob Roll!

Mob roll was fantastic last week. While I am quite sure I'll get the details wrong. Hip Hop Artist Creative destruction, special guests and the folks from Bombas bikes toured over 500 miles around Seattle in the past few weeks and managed to perform shows throughout Western Washington: Concrete to Olympia, PT to Indianola... culminating in a great show at the Goat. The Goat was happy to have them. When searching Bombas bike images, this came up.

Well, since I can't seem to find any info on bombas bikes please enjoy this picture of a Mustached figure crafted from red pepper flakes on a paper plate. Muy caliente y buen sabor!
I guess I did find the slightly more relevant info on FB.

New season rumblings.

Why is it that narrative is so pleasurable when it has such a small resemblance to life experience? In life there is character development, setting, and agents of conflict established relatively early: love affairs and broken hearts, road trips and flat tires, Christmas dinners and racist uncles. There is rarely a clear sense of dramatic tension, climax or resolution. In fact the basic tumultuous elements tend to be serially relived throughout a lifetime. Children with abusive parents become abusive or seek out the abusers. In this way life seems more like a mystery where the murder is poorly remembered, yet the attempt to solve the crime limps along via re-enactment. So… I wonder what it is that we want from our art and why. Do folks need documentation and resonance in art to make their relentless passion plays seem more romantic or are we interested strictly in diversion to make our repetition less noticeable?

Here at the goat we were treated to a wonderful night of song and sound thanks to the toy boats, Paundy Featuring a few tunes with none other than Pete the sweet Hasson, Lonely Coast late night, and sound artist Steve Barsotti.

Steve’s work was a welcome break in the standard notion of song as a journey with requisite characters and destinations. His improvised set of sounds were performed on a series of built up instruments composed of cigar boxes, dowels and springs with contact pickups directing the sound through a laptop. The results were diverse: from breaching whales to thumper on an electrified log the work thwarted a viewer’s anticipation. Both, percussive and arrhythmic - tonal and non-melodic, I found myself compelled to consider my own breath and shuffling about, as implied in the work onstage. So much art is immersive. One of the great divides I notice in the arts is the dichotomy between work that is escapist and work that promotes self-awareness. Once I relaxed into the work I found myself wanting to make sound myself while feeling like the potential saboteur. Some folks pulled back and tried to whisper-he-said-she-said-tales amongst and against the thumps and twangs. Not sure when work like this will come up again but I sure hope it isn’t too long.

Toyboats was really stellar and their collective sound was really great. Tiflin brought a “Pocket piano” which consists of C3P0’s spleen and pancreas. It was a new bit of whizz.

Some great new faces there too. It was cool to have Greg and Elyse out for the first time: Joyful folks that fit right in.

Richie and Maire will be here soon from Dublin so be on your toes for impromptu goatings. x, t

Off Poor?

So the goat is considering doing a series of dinner theaters this spring and summer. Anyone up for helping out? I am trying to scam how only musicians will cook and clean so that folks could walk away with a couple of bucks. B has been cooking up a storm.

the goat is in repair.
It is cold.
tomorrow I'll stock some firewood for her.
In hopes that it will kindle something more
than a nights' revelry.

Bring us the new year
on a plate for our inspection.
A trip is in the air.
It smells of hoof and horn.

bonvoyagegoaters.

So it seems that the intrepid folks: Rob, Neda, Manuel and BQ are off to remote regions.
It is the goat's manner to miss you before you leave and glance about solemnly in your absence after you are gone. If Serbia and Ethiopia are lucky they will find the likes of you carousing and muttering about some local pub- eating with your fingers late.

Iggy and Jack in effect

Hi all sorry for the late post. Some things of note. Paundy's album is finally out and it has some awesome bonus tracks. If you haven't had a chance to get it yet please do so. The goat had a fantastic send off for Igor with some brilliant performances by Andy Baldwin, Derek and Paul, Steven Arntson, Israfel, and Before Cars. It was a great night. Mark McNight shot some nice video of Mr Arntson and it can be viewed at...
This juncture
and
This Juncture.

We are maybe looking at something for late September if all goes well. I still need to clean the place. I am going to change its name to the Mouse.

Considering some goat love and music for the night of the 29th. Pan Igorem Chilimonczykem will be gracing us with his presence. I originally built the goat building for him to live in for a bit. He has not been to America in over 10 years. I thought it would be nice to send him off the day before he leaves for Poland in grand style. Please bring an instrument. Getting low on gran marinier, tequila and all our wine glasses have been broken.

Freedom

Cousin Ed and Mere wondering where the day of immigration will lead.

oh boy.Happiness is dressing as unwashed immigrants in a Fourth Parade. B looked amazing. Instead of loading up images of the night I thought our departure point might be a more applicable encapsulation.

Mark Gsellman rocks.

Rhinestone love and a nice shot of the turtle with Dave's extraordinary seaweed marquis.
The Baron

The beautiful and wildly successful work of Zanetka Gawronski.

Steve Weinberg with Paundy reading Pie.

Paul is turning 40 in this shot.
I am choosing to keep most folks anonymous here, but this is the Clamanator: Damn the Clamanator.
I seem to be enjoying Lydia's impromptu gig. What a voice.
Thanks to Mark Gsellman for the use of these wonderful pictures.

A magnanamous start.

There is something to be said for beginnings.
The Turtle christening was full on:
A wonderful show by Zanetka Gawronski
leaped from the walls and into peoples cars,
Rather impressive herd of Elephants(R) graced the goat, a beautiful Young comic got her start,
Paundy managed yet another mission control center in the woods, A large man named Shaun was doppledganged by a drunken version of himself rendering him deeply un-drunk in comparison ( a new Rule has been instituted fining all that fall 10 bucks- 20 if they take another down, 30 if they are over 250 pounds), rob recorded steve using a portion of the original controls from Sputnik, Dave's gorgeous seaweed marquis glowed above, Rhinestones blew people away and should never ever tune that Ukulele, Eli brought his moonshine and with the help of a rather misleading chap named Spencer the "Clamanator" was born and hopefully died, Christine TCB'd, My son found Eli and Amanda in the attic of the goat in the morning and he was convinced the building was capable of birthing mythical lumberjacks overnight, Mr. Arntson helped me come to celebrate failure, Before Cars sounded just fantastic and were meant to play the new space, Lydia plays an impromptu set that felt planned, Jeff Patricio seamlessly knit it all together with B side Samba love and pulled the plug as per usual in my absence, A Steve Weinberg was mistaken for Steve Gutenberg. Dan L was sighted NW of Agate pass. Belle still has a beautiful voice.

I am still cleaning. What is with people? While world peace and a stable economy is a pipe-dream can we concentrate on not just opening beers and leaving them in the weeds untouched.

Ps. I honestly meant to tell people that the intention of the turtle is to allow local musicians to play and pass a hat from time to time in order to make local music a reality.

I never actually saw Doug; Clamanator?
And Hey, did anyone get to use the outhouse? Was it good?

Saturday, May 16, 2009

2bconsidered for the 30th. .

Josh made some nice salvador/kingston/ian screw drivers.
Grinding all the boards for the acoustic back really sucks.
The turtle head is in place and looks great and a bit folksy.
Marquis is in the works at least.
Front overhang copper installed.
Gold dome complete.
Lighting being considered.
Trash everywhere.
Stone to be laid.
3 benches needed.
2 support arms to be crafted for barge rafter support: Gold?
Chiminea with requisite stack desperately needed.
